Biden thanks US troops in Poland, praises ‘guts’ shown by Ukrainians

US President Joe Biden arrived on Friday in the Polish city of Rzeszow, about 65 kilometres from the Ukrainian border, where he spoke to US troops protecting NATO’s eastern flank and praised the “guts” and “backbone” shown by ordinary Ukrainians. Biden was unable to meet immediately as planned with Polish President Andrzej Duda, whose airplane was forced to make an emergency landing. Biden initially met with US troops instead of going with Duda to view the humanitarian operation for the millions of refugees who have fled the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
